Catherine got her first dog, Sheleigh, a Border Collie, in 1979. Falling
in love with the breed and realizing that she could not have sheep
in the city limits of Asheville she fell in love with the sport of
obedience. She has had numerous High in Trial and High Combined awards,
Regional, Classic, World Series placements, and a “200”,
with her own dogs. They have achieved the AKC obedience titles from
CD to OTCh, and U-CDXs from the UKC. Her students compete in AKC,
UKC, Schutzhund and Herding events and have earned HITs, Regional,
Classic, Shuman, and Delany placements, and an OTCh. She considers
all her student’s accomplishments a great thrill, from qualifying
in that challenging exercise to achieving a HIT!
In November of 1998 she began The Dog’s Camp, and has held the
titles of Director, Obedience Instructor and Herding Instructor.
Catherine and her husband Ken moved to the country in
2000. Living in a log cabin on 10 acres with 40 sheep, a Livestock
Guardian Dog, the barn cats, the house cats and of course the 7 Border
Collies. 11 year old Tess, 10 year old Skye’s Supersonic, 5
